.topic [L]ist Files
List Files Displays a list of files available on the Host system, in the
following format:
FILENAME.EXT NNNNNNNN MM/DD/YY HH:MM
NNNNNNNN represents the size of the file, MM/DD/YY represents the file
modification date (Month:Day:Year), and HH:MM represents the file modifica-
tion time (Hour:Minute). Note that the date and time separators (/ and :
in the example above), and the date format may differ on this Host(MM/DD/YY
could be YY/DD/MM, DD/MM/YY, etc.), as the format is configurable by your
Sysop. The time format may be in either 24 hour time, or 12 hour time. If
12 hour time is used, 'a' or 'p' (a.m., p.m.) will follow HH:MM.
If more than one screen (23 lines) of files exist, the display pauses and
the <MORE> prompt is displayed. Press [Enter] if you want to see more
files, press [C] (continuous) to display the rest of the files in non-stop
mode, or press [N] (no more) to stop List Files and return to the Host Main
Menu. Note that you can also press [Ctrl-C] or [Ctrl-K] to abort List File
prematurely.
.topic [F]ind a File
Find a file searches the Host's disk for one or more files. The following
prompt is displayed when Find a File is selected:
Find what file [* and ? accepted]:
Press [Enter] without entering anything to cancel the search. Otherwise,
enter a 'filespec' to search for one or more files. The filespec may
include wildcards (* and ?). For example, if you enter *.ZIP, Find a File
will search for all files that have a .ZIP extension. If you enter
ICOM*.*, Find a file will search for any files starting with the letters
ICOM (followed by none or more characters), with any extension.
If no files are found matching the filespec, the prompt "No files found" is
displayed. Otherwise, all files matching the filespec are displayed in the
following format:
FILENAME.EXT NNNNNNNN MM/DD/YY HH:MM
NNNNNNNN represents the size of the file, MM/DD/YY represents the file
modification date (Month:Day:Year), and HH:MM represents the file modifica-
tion time (Hour:Min:Sec).
Press [Enter] if you want to see more
files, press [C] (continuous) to display the rest of the files in non-stop
mode, or press [N] (no more) to stop Find a File and return to the Host
Main Menu. Note that you can also press [Ctrl-C] or [Ctrl-K] to abort Find
a File prematurely.
If Find a File performs a complete disk search (Level 2 callers only), the
path to each file is displayed on a separate line as in this example below:
Directory (C:\UTIL)
FILE1.EXT 123456 06/01/94 1:00a
FILE2.EXT 234567 06/02/94 2:00a
Directory (C:\DOWNLOADS)
FILE3.EXT 345678 06/03/94 12:00p
In the example, FILE1.EXT and FILE2.EXT are in the C:\UTIL directory, and
FILE3.EXT is in the C:\DOWNLOADS directory.
.topic [V]iew a File
View File is used to view the contents of a TEXT FILE. The contents of
.ZIP files or other archives is currently not supported. When View File is
selected, the following prompt is displayed:
View which file?
Enter the name of the file you wish to view at this prompt. If the file is
found its contents is displayed to the screen. If more than one screen of
information exists in the file, the display pauses and the <MORE> prompt is
displayed. Press [Enter] if you want to see more, press [C] (continuous)
to display the rest of the file in non-stop mode, or press [N] (no more) to
stop View a File and return to the Host Main Menu. Note that you can also
press [Ctrl-C] or [Ctrl-K] to abort viewing a prematurely.
.topic [D]ownload
Download is used to transfer one or more files from the Host system to the
caller's computer. After selecting Download, you are presented with a list
of the available Host protocols:
PROTOCOLS:
[A] - ASCII
[R] - Relaxed Xmodem
[X] - Xmodem
[1] - Xmodem-1K
[K] - Xmodem-1K-G
[Y] - Ymodem
[G] - Ymodem-G
[Z] - Zmodem
Which Protocol [Enter aborts]?
The ASCII protocol can transfer only text files. The Xmodem varieties
(Relaxed Xmodem, Xmodem, Xmodem-1K, Xmodem-1K-G) can transfer only one file
per download (i.e. 'batch' downloads are not supported due to limitations
in protocol design specifications). Ymodem, Ymodem-G and Zmodem support
batch downloads. DO NOT use Xmodem-1K-G or Ymodem-G unless you are using
an error-correcting modem, and have established an error-free link with the
Host.
External Protocols
------------------
Your Sysop may also have one or more 'external protocols' defined, such as
HS/Link, or external DSZ-Zmodem, etc. If you are familiar with the
protocol, and you also have it set up in your communications program, go
ahead and use it. If you are not familiar with an external protocol, stick
with Host's Zmodem, Ymodem or Xmodem (in that order of preference). Note
that your communications program must ALSO support the protocol you select.
BATCH Downloads
---------------
'Batch' Downloads allow more than one file to be transferred with a single
[D]ownload command. Only Ymodem, Ymodem-G and Zmodem (and some external
protocols) support batch downloads. Wildcards (* and ?) can be used when
specifying filenames with any batch protocol, and multiple filenames can
also be entered. Host will automatically determine whether batch downloads
can be performed or not. If you attempt to enter wildcards with a non-
batch protocol, Host will inform you and will re-prompt for the filename(s).
Regardless of the protocol selected, Host prompts for filename #1 to
download:
Filename #1, [Enter=Done]:
If a non-batch protocol was selected, wildcards (* and ?) are not accepted
in filenames, and only ONE filename is prompted for. If a batch protocol
was selected, wildcards are accepted, and up to ten 'filespecs' may be
specified (*.ZIP as Filename #1, *.TXT as Filename #2, FILE*.* as Filename
#3, etc). Pressing [Enter] alone at the 'Filename #' prompt ends batch
filename entry.
Once the filename(s) have been entered, the following menu is displayed:
[C]ontinue, [G]oodbye, or [A]bort Host when file transfer completes:
If Continue is selected, Host returns to the Main Menu when the download
completes. If Goodbye is selected, Host will automatically log you off
when the transfer completes. If Abort is selected, Host prompts for the
'Abort Host Password'. If the proper password is entered, Host then asks
you:
Should Intellicomm exit to DOS as well [y/n]?
If you answer 'N' (no), Host logs you off after the file transfer com-
pletes, then aborts itself (this stops the Host from answering any further
calls). If you answer 'Y' (yes), Host logs you off after the transfer com-
pletes, aborts itself, and also aborts Intellicomm.
.topic [U]pload
Upload is used to transfer one or more files from the Host system to the
caller's computer. After selecting Upload, you are presented with a list
of the available Host protocols:
PROTOCOLS:
[A] - ASCII
[R] - Relaxed Xmodem
[X] - Xmodem
[1] - Xmodem-1K
[K] - Xmodem-1K-G
[Y] - Ymodem
[G] - Ymodem-G
[Z] - Zmodem
Which Protocol [Enter aborts]?
The ASCII protocol can transfer only text files. The Xmodem varieties
(Relaxed Xmodem, Xmodem, Xmodem-1K, Xmodem-1K-G) can transfer only one file
per upload (i.e. 'batch' uploads are not supported due to limitations in
protocol design specifications). Ymodem, Ymodem-G and Zmodem support batch
uploads. DO NOT use Xmodem-1K-G or Ymodem-G unless you are using an error-
correcting modem, and have established an error-free link with the Host.
BATCH Uploads
-------------
'Batch' Uploads allow more than one file to be transferred with a single
[U]pload command. Only Ymodem, Ymodem-G and Zmodem (and some external
protocols) support batch downloads. Wildcards (* and ?) can be used when
specifying filenames with any batch protocol, and multiple filenames can
also be entered. Host will automatically determine whether batch uploads
can be performed or not. If you attempt to enter wildcards with a non-
batch protocol, Host will inform you and will re-prompt for the file-
name(s).
If Continue is selected, Host returns to the Main Menu when the upload
completes. If Goodbye is selected, Host will automatically log you off
when the transfer completes. If Abort is selected, Host prompts for the
'Abort Host Password'. If the proper password is entered, Host then asks
you:
Should Intellicomm exit to DOS as well [y/n]?
If you answer 'N' (no), Host logs you off after the file transfer com-
pletes, then aborts itself (this stops the Host from answering any further
calls). If you answer 'Y' (yes), Host logs you off after the transfer com-
pletes, aborts itself, and also aborts Intellicomm.
.topic [G]oodbye
Goodbye disconnects you from Intellicomm Host.
.topic [C]hat
Select Chat to page the Sysop. When you select Chat, an alarm is sounded
on the Host computer to get the Sysop's attention. If the Sysop is
unavailable, Host will display the message "Sorry, the Sysop is unavail-
able." and the [C]hat command will then be disabled for the duration of
your call.
.topic [E]nter DOS Command
Enter DOS Command allows quick entry of a single DOS command, without the
overhead of performing a complete [S]hell to DOS. If you have not previ-
ously specified the 'DOS Shell Password', Host prompts for it before
accepting a command. Note that if the 'DOS Shell Password' is not defined
by your Sysop, you will receive the message "Sorry, DOS functions are not
available on this Host", and Host will simply return to the Main Menu. If
a password is defined, and the correct password is entered, the following
prompt is displayed:
DOS - D:\PATH>
(where D:\PATH is the current DOS drive and directory). Press [Enter]
without entering a command to cancel. Or type in a DOS command followed by
[Enter] and Host will execute the command for you.
NOTES: DOS input/output is NOT re-directed while the command executes, use
[E]nter DOS command only for commands that require no input other than on
the command line (batch files, MOVE, COPY, DEL, PKZIP, etc.), and that you
don't have the see output from. Use the [S]hell to DOS option to execute
commands that require input, or to see the output from the command remote-
ly.
If the command fails, try preceding it with 'SW:' (SWap). For example:
DOS - C:\DOWNLOADS> SW:BIGPROG.EXE
^^^
The SW: above causes Intellicomm to swap itself out of memory before
executing BIGPROG.EXE, leaving the program with much more memory to work
with.
.topic [S]hell to DOS
Shell to DOS is used to temporarily access the DOS prompt. If you have not
previously entered the 'DOS Shell Password', Host prompts you for it before
shelling to DOS. Note that if the Sysop has not defined a Shell to DOS
Password, you will receive the message "Sorry, DOS functions are not
available on this Host", and Host will simply return to the Main Menu.
What you are able to do from the DOS prompt depends upon how your Sysop has
set up the Shell to DOS option. By default, Intellicomm Host uses the DOS
'CTTY' command to re-direct DOS input and output to the communications
port, so that you can interact with standard DOS programs remotely. CTTY
cannot, however, re-direct input/output for full-blown applications such as
WordPerfect, dBASE, Lotus, etc. If this Host is using CTTY, you will be
informed of it when the Shell to DOS is performed, and will be warned
against running full applications. If you do not heed the advice, and you
execute a full-blown application from the DOS prompt, you will lose control
of the Host computer.
If the Host is using DOORWAY or another such program for DOS Shells
(DOORWAY will display a message to you if it is called), you can run any
non-graphics program remotely from the DOS prompt; even programs such as
WordPerfect for DOS, dBASE, Lotus, etc. If DOORWAY is used, be sure to
turn on your communications program's DOORWAY MODE (press [Alt-=] in most
communications programs) when you reach the DOS prompt.
.topic [N]ew Directory
Intellicomm Host changes to the 'Host Download Directory' when it starts.
The [N]ew Directory command allows you to change the current DOS directory.
This is mainly of use to Level 2 callers, since the current DOS directory
is assumed for the [L]ist Files, [F]ind a File, [V]iew a File, and
[D]ownload commands. The current directory is also the directory you are
placed in if a [S]hell to DOS is performed.
The 'DOS Shell Password' is prompted for when [N]ew Directory is selected,
if a DOS Shell Password is defined. If no DOS Shell Password is defined,
the New Directory command is disabled.
.topic [A]bort Host
When Abort Host is selected, you are required to enter the 'Abort Host
Password'. Note that if your Sysop has not defined a password you will
receive the message "Sorry, Abort is disabled on this Host". Otherwise, if
the correct password is entered, Host then asks you:
Should Intellicomm exit to DOS as well [y/n]?
If yoy answer 'N' (no), Host logs you off (same as selecting [G]oodbye),
disconnects, and Aborts itself. This stops the Host from answering any
further calls. If you answer 'Y' (yes), Host logs you off, disconnects,
aborts itself, and also aborts Intellicomm.
